A 1974 graduate of North Polk High School, Wes continued his education at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, excelling on the mat as a four-year letter winner and three-time National Qualifier for the KoHawks. After graduating in 1978, Wes taught and coached at Dewitt Central and Central Decatur before coming to Indianola in 1986.

Wes’s coaching accomplishments speak for themselves. While at Indianola, his dual meet record was 271-26-1, with a career dual record of 322-74-8. Wes is one of only a handful of coaches in the state of Iowa with 300 plus wins. During his tenure, his teams won eight district titles, seven while at Indianola. His Indians appeared at the State Duals five time, placing 4th three times, and 2nd two times.

Individual wrestling accomplishments were plenty under Coach Creason. Ninety-one individual state qualifiers at Indianola, thirty six state place winners, and six State Champions highlighted Wes’ career. His Indians finished in the top 10 seven times at the state meet. His 1994 team took the gold as the Class 3A State Champions. Some notable athletes include: Travis Young, state champ for Indianola, two-time National Champion at Simpson and three-time All-American for the Storm; Eric Keller, a two-time state champion and two-time All-American at Wartburg, and Jared Downey a two- time state champ for the Indians.

Looking at his career at Indianola, Coach Creason brought state wide respect and notoriety to the Indianola wrestling program, a tradition that continues today. In 2003, Wes accepted a job as Athletic Director for Bondurant-Farrar High School. Wes still resides in Indianola where he is married to his wife, Julie. The Creason’ have two children, Ashley and Jared.
