A 1972 graduate of Indianola High School, Tom was a long and lean right handed fastball pitcher who dominated high school batters for his four years of pitching for the Indians. His career record was 31-7. He had 8 shutouts and 5 no-hitters. Tom compiled an ERA of 1.41. He was also the leading hitter with a career average of .340 including 16 homeruns. Tom lettered for four years. He was a 1st Team All-Conference two straight years and was a 4th Team AllState selection in 1972. Tom was also outstanding in the classroom as he graduated 2nd in his class. He took his talents to the University of Iowa where he was a four year letter winner and team captain his senior year. He had a career record of 20-13 and led the Hawkeyes in strikeouts in his final three seasons. He was also an All-Big Ten academic selection. Tom was then drafted and played in the Houston Astros farm system and pitched himself to a 10-3 record. He then returned to college and pursued a career in business. Tom still resides in the Indianola area with his wife, Michelle and three children, Aaron, Adam and Hannah.
