One of Indianola’s best all-around athletes, Steph Suntken was a key member of some very successful programs during her years at Indianola. She earned 16 varsity letters and received several All-State honors. In volleyball, Steph was a three time All-State Honoree: 4th team member in 1997, a second team member in 1998, and a first team and Elite All-State selection as a senior in 1999. That year her team qualified for the 3A State Volleyball tournament. She was also selected to play in the Senior All-Star game. During the winter sports season, Steph was a four year starter on the basketball team, earning 2nd Team All-Conference honors. Steph had an outstanding track career being selected as an Elite All-State Team Member all four years. As a freshman she placed fifth in the 400 meter dash at state and was a member of the state championship sprint medley and 4 x 400 relay teams. As a sophomore, she ran on a sprint medley team that placed 6th. As a junior, Steph was a member of the second place sprint medley and state champion 4 x 400 meter relay teams. And in her senior year, she placed fourth in the long jump, 3rd in the 400 meter dash, and was the state Pentathlon champion. Along with these accomplishments, she was a seven time Drake Relay qualifier, including the 1997 4 x 400 relay team which took home the gold. Softball kept Steph busy during the summer months. In 1998 and 1999, she was a CIML All-Conference selection and earned 2nd Team All-State recognition her junior year on a team that finished 3rd at the state softball tournament. Along with her athletic accomplishments, Steph was honored as an Academic All-Conference member throughout her high school career. Steph is currently a student athlete at Northwest Missouri State University on both the track & field and volleyball teams.
