A wonderfully versatile multiple sport competitor, Sara graduated from Indianola High School with 15 varsity letters. Four letters were earned in cross country, track and field, softball and three letters in basketball. Post-season honors for Sara were numerous. While competing for the Indians she was named to the 1st Team All-Warren County basketball and softball teams and received All-State honors in basketball. But it was track and field where she made the biggest contribution to the Indian athletic program. In 1992 Sara earned two bronze medals at the State Track and Field Championships in the 400 Meter Dash and as a member of the 4 x 400 Meter Relay. As a member of the 1993 State Championship Indoor and Outdoor track and field teams, she earned bronze medals in both the indoor and outdoor 400 Meter Dash. But it was the last race of her prep career that was the most important. Needing to place and finish ahead of Iowa City High in the 4 x 400 Meter Relay to capture their first outdoor title of the 1990’s, Sara anchored her 4 x 400 Meter Relay to the silver medal that allowed the Indians to capture the 3A State title. In addition, she was named to the Iowa Association of Track Coaches All-State Team. Continuing her education at Iowa State University where she earned a degree in engineering, she was a four-year letter for the Cyclones in track and lettered one time as a Cyclone basketball player. Her career as a Cyclone was highlighted by a 5th place finish in the Distance Medley Relay at the Big 8 Championships and a 7th place finish in the Big 12 Indoor 600 Meter Dash. Her Distance Medley Relay team was a provisional qualifier for the 1996 National Championships. Sara now resides in Hutchison, Kansas with her husband, Billie and daughter, Trinity Lynn.
