One of Indianola’s finest athletes, Matt graduated in 2000 after earning 8 varsity letters and was recognized by the Des Moines Register as a Second Team All-State Athlete in both football and baseball.
His football statistics speak for themselves. In his senior season, Matt led an Indianola offensive attack which averaged 44 points per game. A CIML “Game Best” came against SC North in which Matt threw 5 touchdown passes and finished the game with 239 passing yards totaling 55 points on the scoreboard. His 63% completion rate (94 of 149) for 1485 yards, 26 TD passes with only 3 interceptions lead a team that finished with an 8-1 regular season record. To highlight his senior season, Matt was selected the CIML Offensive Player of the Year.
Matt also had success on the baseball field playing first base and pitching for the Indians. As a three year varsity starter, Matt compiled a .380 batting average, collected 160 hits, including 52 doubles, 3 triples and 22 home runs. He scored 117 runs and drove in 98 RBI’s over his three seasons. Matt post season baseball honors included: First Team All-CIML in 1999 and 2000, was a two time All-District selection, and was selected Second Team All-State Utility player by the Des Moines Register.
After graduating from Indianola High School, Matt attended the University of Iowa. Matt currently resides in Denver, CO. He is a business owner and in the fall, plans to pursue his MBA from either DePaul or the University of Illinois – Chicago.
