A native of Winterset, Mark graduated from Winterset High School in 1973. After attending Simpson College, Mark began teaching physical education and coaching a variety of sports at Indianola. Over the years, Coach Tucker has influenced many of our current and past students both in the classroom and on the field of play. During his 27 years, Mark coached softball for two years, wrestling at both the Jr. High and High School level for 16 years, and was a mainstay on the sidelines, coaching football for all 27 years; 2 years at Simpson College and 25 years for the Indians. Coach Tucker was also very much a part of the track programs at Indianola helping out with the boys program for 3 years and being a part of the girls program for 22 years; 9 as the head coach. The Indianola Girls Track teams accomplished a “3 peat” as Indoor Champions in 1993, 94, and 95 and won back to back State 3A Outdoor Championships with Coach Tucker being named the Class 3A Coach of the Year in 1993 and 1994. Mark credits these accomplishments to the many outstanding individuals who have possessed an extraordinary work ethic and a strong sense of commitment. Coach Tucker states, “Girls Track Championship Teams will always be special because of their success at the state level. But what is most rewarding is having the opportunity to be a small part of so many students’ lives over the 27 years teaching and coaching at Indianola.” Mark retired in 2004 and is currently working at Four Seasons Fundraising in Norwalk. He is married to Jan who is a 3rd grade teacher at Emerson Elementary School. Mark and Jan have 2 children, Joe a freshman at Northwest Missouri State University and Emily, a 7th grader at Indianola Middle School.
