As a 7th grader, it was very obvious that Indianola was going to be blessed with an outstanding hurdler and high jumper for the next six years. Loni Brewer followed her junior high years with stellar performances at the conference and state level. She was a Conference champion as a freshman in the hurdles and helped a Shuttle Hurdle Relay team to a 6th place finish. As a sophomore she was a two-time Conference champion and improved at the State level with a 4th place finish in the hurdles and 4th place in the relays. As a junior, she was again a two time Conference champ and improved her State performances to a 2nd place in the High Jump and 3rd in the shuttle race. During her senior season, she was a part of three Conference titles, two District Meet titles, State Indoor Hurdle champion and finished 4th at the Drake Relays High Jump. She saved her best for the State Meet where she placed 6th in the High Jump, 5th in the Shuttle Hurdle Relay, and won the 100 Meter Hurdles. She is still the school record holder in the High Jump and 100 Meter Hurdles. Loni’s surprise 2nd place in the High Jump her senior year gave the Indians enough points to win the State Championship Team title. She finished her career at Simpson College where she was an NCAA place winner three times in the High Jump and Hurdles. Loni is now married and resides in Indianola.
