The list of state champions from Indianola High School in girl’s track and field is long. Liz Cooper added her name to that list twice during her career when she claimed the 400 Meter Hurdles championship in 1996 and became a repeat champion in 1997. Her 1:03.28 time that she ran in the 1996 championship is still an Indianola High School record and was the best time run in the 1996 State Track meet. Liz continued to show her track and field versatility when she took fourth in the State Pentathlon her sophomore year and fifth in her junior season. In addition, she was a member of the 6th place 4 x 400 Meter Relay in the 1996 Drake Relays. A three year letter winner in volleyball, Liz was named to the CIML All-Conference 1st Team her senior year and was named to the 2nd All-CIML Team following the completion of her junior season. In addition, she was named to the All-Academic Conference team twice during her volleyball career. Liz earned two letters in basketball and was named to the CIML Honorable Mention squad following the completion of her junior season. She also earned academic honors during her basketball career. Liz currently lives in Ames, Iowa with her husband Jake Bates and son Isaiah.
