Joseph Hunt exemplifies the meaning of “student athlete”. While at Indianola, Joe participated in football, basketball, and track earning 10 varsity letters. Joe was a member of the National Honor Society, represented his senior class as Valedictorian, and was selected as a Governor’s Scholar recipient.
On the football field, Joe was selected CIML first team all-conference quarterback his junior and senior seasons for Coach Dave Summy. Joe completed 225 passes for 2983 yards and 27 touchdowns in his two seasons leading the Indian offense.
In basketball, Joe started 92 games in four seasons for Coach Bert Hanson and is the third player in Indianola history to score 1000 points and was a member of the 2001 state championship team. Other basketball accomplishments include: Fist Team All-CIML in 2002 and 2003, Record Herald Player of the Year in 2002 and 2003, Academic First Team All-Sate in 2003, and First Team All-State in 2003.
During the spring, Joe participated in track excelling in the 110 high hurdles. A two time CIML 110 High Hurdle Champion, Joe was a four time Drake Relays qualifier, placing 5th his junior season, and a three time state qualifier placing 3rd and 7th his junior and season year respectively.
After high school, Joe attended Yale University. While studying abroad at the University of Cape Town, South Africa, Joe stayed active playing basketball and was selected MVP of the Western Province Basketball Playoffs. Joe was also honored as Yale University Club Scholar of New York City.
Joe is currently living in Boston, Massachusetts as a legal assistant at a plaintiffs’-side, union-side law firm and plans to attend law school in the near future.
