An elite high school track star at IHS, Jim was a member of 5 state championship relay teams. Those relay teams include a 1969 Mile Relay, a 1970 Sprint Medley Relay, and 1970 Mile Relay that set Iowa High School records, 1971 880 Relay, and a 1971 Mile Relay. Jim also set the school record in the 440 yard dash. After graduating from Indianola High School, Jim went on to run track at Abilene Christian College before transferring to the University of Missouri in 1972. While at Missouri Jim was selected as a member of the All-American Track and Field Team in 1974 and on a Distance Medley relay Team that took first at the NCAA Indoor meet. Jim feels he was greatly influenced by his high school coaches Keith Bunting, Ron Werling, and Larry Pierce. He currently resides in McCall, Idaho, with his wife Maggie and kids, Luke and Jessica. He manages properties within the McCall area.
