Jay Cox was a 1992 Indianola graduate who excelled in three sports – Football, Wrestling, and Track. In football, Jay was a two year letter winner and earned All–Conference honors as a linebacker as well as All-Metro honors. Jay took his aggressive football play to the track with him lettering 4 years and running the grueling 400 Meter Hurdles where he was the 9th fastest hurdler in the state. He is best known for his wrestling accomplishments as he had a career record of 128-11-3 with six of those losses to State champions. He was a four year letter winner, two time Conference champions, two time District champion and a three time state qualifier and place winner. Jay placed 2nd in the State as a sophomore, 3rd as a junior, and 2nd again as a senior, losing to a Dowling wrestler that was considered the best in the nation. Jay when on to Iowa Central Community College and was a National qualifier his first year. He then went on to graduate from the University of Northern Iowa in 1997.
