Very few athletes have dominated an athletic program at Indianola High School the way that Jason Lathrum dominated the swim program in the mid 1990s. Mr. Lathrum is the holder of fourteen Indianola High School swim records and his 200 Individual Medley time of 1:51.35 and 500 Freestyle time of 4:30.62 are state records. His 200 Individual Medley and 500 Freestyle qualified for All-American standards and he was 98-0 in individual events through his high school dual career. Jason was an All-American for four consecutive years: 1994, 1995, 1996, and 1997. Jason claimed the 1997 State Championship in both the 200 Individual Medley and the 500 Freestyle. A four year letter winner for the Indians and winner of numerous CIML Conference championships, Mr. Lathrum was also invited to participate in the Junior Nationals at age 17 and to the Olympic Training Center for training with other Olympic hopefuls. Following his high school graduation in 1997 he continued his education at the University of Iowa where he was a member of the Hawkeye Swim Team. A shoulder injury forced his retirement from competitive swimming following his sophomore season. Jason is now attending American Institute of Business and is majoring in Information Technology.
