Each year, high school and college coaches around the country become excited when they assemble their teams knowing they possess that “special” athlete. Athletes who not only possess physical talent, but also gifted with the “intangibles” that elevate them to elite status. Personal qualities such as dedication, focus, competitiveness, intelligence, and passion to succeed.

From 2005 to 2009, Jamie Elbert was that special athlete at Indianola High School. Possessing the aforementioned qualities, Jamie competed at the highest level in basketball, track and field, and cross country. Her individual drive for success also carried over to the classroom as Jamie was named to academic all state teams in both basketball and track and field.

As a four year starter for the Indians’ basketball team, Jamie’s resume is a testament to her passion for success. Highlights of her four year career include:

*Led the team in scoring, rebounds and steals as a freshman.
*Led the Indians in scoring and assists, finished 2nd in conference scoring, named 2nd team all-conference and 1st team all-district her sophomore season.
*Team leader in scoring, assists, steals; finished as conference scoring leader, and again named 2nd team all-conference and 1st team all-district as a junior.
*As a senior….Jamie again led her team in scoring (18.1 points per game), assists and steals. She repeated as the conference scoring leader as well as topping the assists and steals chart. Jamie finished 3rd overall in class 4A scoring. She was named 1st team allCIML, 1st team all-district, and 1st team all-state by the Iowa Newspaper Association. Jamie helped the Indians return to the state tournament in 2009 for the first time in twelve years. She ended her high school basketball career by playing in both the Gatorade and Iowa Basketball Coaches Association all-star games. Jamie is the current all-time scoring leader at Indianola HighSchool with 1,220 points.

In addition to basketball, Jamie was a standout runner for the cross country and track teams. She was a four year all conference performer, 3 year state qualifier, and two time team captain in cross country. In track and field, Jamie was a force for the Indians at the state level. During her IHS career, she qualified for the Drake Relays in 8 events and the state track meet in 14 events. Jamie’s track career produced 7 state meet medals which included her 3rd place finish in the 800 meter run in 2006.

Jamie moved on to Simpson College where she earned her degree in 2013. While a member of the Storm’s nationally ranked women’s basketball team, she was part of 2 Iowa Conference championship teams as well as qualifying for the NCAA National Tournament. Jamie also competed one year for the Simpson women’s track and field team. As a student/athlete at the collegiate level, Jamie continued to maintain high academic standards as evidenced by her selection to the academic all-conference teams in both sports.

Jamie continues to reside in Indianola and works in Des Moines as a tax associate at KPMG. Jamie would personally like to thank the Indianola community for supporting all Indian student/athletes, Dobbers Up!
