Deb Worden was a 1977 graduate who excelled in cross country and track. Deb blossomed as one of the premier distance runners in the state during her junior year. She was a District Champion and considered to be one of the best cross country runners in the state as she finished in 10th place with a time of 12:03, leading her team to a 3rd place finish. During her senior season, she had illness problems at the State meet after finishing 5th with a time of 11:56, a new school record.
In track, Deb was an All-State her junior year as a result of some outstanding performances. She was a Conference and District Mile Run champion and ran the 9th fastest ever at the State Meet finishing 4th in a time of 5:12. Deb also anchored the Distance Medley 3rd Place, helping the team finish with the 10th fastest time on record at the State Meet. As a senior, she set a new State Indoor record winning the mile in 5:35 and anchored a Medley team to 1st place in a new State record time, leading her team to a State Team Championship. Deb also set two Conference records in the Mile Run and anchoring the Distance Medley. She was a champ in both events in the District Meet, setting school records in each. At the State Meet, she finished 2nd in the Mile run in a time of 5.16. Ms. Worden went on to Central College in Pella for a great career, lettering seven times in track and cross country. She still holds two school records in track and held ten school records when she graduated from high school. Deb is now married with three children and teacher preschool in Polk City.
