Cory Johnson Class of 2009 Cory Johnson, Class of 2009, a four year cross country letter winner was a key component that laid the foundation for the success of the boys cross country teams at Indianola. As a freshman he was recognized by his teammates as “Newcomer of the Year” with his performance throughout the season and at the state cross country meet. During his remaining three years, Cory was voted by his teammates as team MVP, was a 3-time CIML Central All Conference athlete, 3-time All-District performer, 3-time Sate Meet Qualifier, and was recognized as a 2nd Team All State cross country athlete. Cory also was a 4-time Academic All-Conference athlete, and as a senior was recognized as an Academic All-State athlete. During the track season, Cory was a 3-time state qualifier in the 3200 meter run.

After high school, Cory secured a nomination to attend the United States Air Force Academy, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Academy candidates for admission are judged on their academic achievement, demonstrated leadership, athletics and character. While attending the academy, Cory walked on and participated in cross country and track.

Cory would like to recognize coaches Joel Hoger, Stacy Garrels and Kevin Barnes tonight for their commitment over the years. Cory is currently residing in Biloxi, MS as a Cyberspace Operations Officer in the USAF.
