Chris Engel Fitzpatrick is the daughter of Bill and Sherrie Engel of Indianola and the wife of Jon Fitzpatrick. She is a 2002 graduate of Indianola High School where she was salutatorian of her high school class. She lettered in swimming (1 yr.), basketball (3 yrs.), track (4 yrs.) and softball (5 yrs.). In basketball she was 2nd team all conference (1 yr.) In softball she was a three-time 1st team all-conference selection, 1st team all-district, was also 4th team All-State her sophomore year, 2nd team All-State her junior year, and 3rd team All-State her senior year. Her junior year the Indianola softball team went to the state tournament and finished 5th and Chris was named to the AllTournament team. She was also the Record Herald Softball Player of the Year, received the Bernie Saggau Award and an alternate on the Iowa Senior Elite Softball team. Chris was academic all-conference in all the sports she participated in for all four years of high school. She was also a finalist for the Wendy’s High School Heisman.
Chris attended Coe College in Cedar Rapids, IA where she started all 172 games at first base. Along with lettering all four years, she was 1st Team All-Iowa Conference and 2nd Team All-Midwest Region her sophomore and junior years. Chris was recognized as Iowa Conference Female Athlete of the Week and Iowa Conference Softball Player of the week during her senior year. She received 3rd Team All-Midwest Region honors her senior season and was named to the Rock Island Regional All-Tournament Team after scoring the winning run to led her team to Coe’s first ever College World Series where the Kohawks placed 5th in the Nation. Chris holds Coe College School Records in; RBIs in a single season (53), career RBIs (140), and career home runs (29). She also received the Coe College Barron Bremner Outstanding Female Athlete Award her senior year.
Chris graduated from Coe College in 2006 with a degree in Business. She worked 1 ½ years for Jostens Printing and Publishing and is now attending Simpson College where she will receive her Masters of Arts in Teaching with an endorsement in Biology. She is presently head freshman girls’ basketball coach, head 8th grade girls’ softball coach, and assistant 8th grade volleyball coach and here in Indianola.
