With a career on-base percentage of .506 (a school record), Bryan Labertew is arguably the finest leadoff hitter ever to play for the Indians. With a school record 71 stolen bases and receiving 97 base-on-balls during his career, Bryan was one of the leaders on the 35-2 squad in 1996. In addition to his play as an outfielder, he was called on to play middle infield, to pitch, and to catch during his baseball career for Indianola High School. In addition to an outstanding baseball career, Bryan was a rare two way starter for the Indian football team as a cornerback and wingback and in 1996 he received All-State status as a defensive back. Mr. Labertew continued his playing career at Simpson College where he played defensive back for the Storm.
