A versatile multisport competitor, Andrea Ward graduated from Indianola in 1993 earning 13 varsity letters. Three letters were earned in swimming, basketball, softball and four letters in golf. Post-season honors for Andrea were numerous in basketball while competing for the Indians, being selected both all conference and all district in basketball. Andrea scored 1,093 points during her career, held the state record in making 10 three pointers in a game against Newton in 1992 which is still an Indianola record. Her senior year, Andrea made 64 three point baskets and was selected to play in the All-Star Basketball game featuring Iowa’s best vs. Oklahoma’s best. During this game Andrea scored the game winning basket on a 3 pointer with 12 seconds left to win the game. Andrea continued her education at St. Ambrose University where she played basketball participating on three NAIA National Basketball Tournaments, scoring 1009 points during her career. In 1996 Andrea received the Bill Bradley Scholastic All American Award at the National Catholic Basketball Tournament. She went on to graduate magna cum laude in 1997 with a Degree in Biology. She continued her education at Des Moines University earning a Masters Degree in Physical Therapy. She would like to thank Coaches Kim Arndt and Jerry Wetzel, and teachers Mr. and Mrs. Bertsch. Andrea now resides in Waukee with her husband, Chris, and their two children, Blake and Bryce.
