IHS boys race to LHC title

Little Hawkeye Conference newcomer Indianola captured a boys’ conference track and field title on Tuesday in Grinnell to end Pella’s five-year run as conference champions.

The Indianola boys scored 186 points to top Dallas Center-Grimes’ second-place score of 163 and Pella’s third-place tally of 92 points. Norwalk placed fourth in the eight-school competition with 81 points.

“We were pleased. We knew that there would be some great competition,” Indianola boys coach Matt Oliver said. “Our depth kind of carried us through the meet.”

Indianola’s girls team took runner-up honors with 127 points to finish behind Pella’s top mark of 190. Norwalk finished fifth in the girls’ standings with 89 points.

Indianola athletes claimed conference titles in 12 events at the meet.

For the boys, conference champions included Indianola’s Seth Nostrala (1,600-meter run, 4 minutes, 33.59 seconds; 3,200, 9:55.73), Quentin Linnan (400, 49.55; 800, 2:00.45) and Tyler Piper (400 hurdles, 55.80) along with the 4×400 (3:28.33), 4×800 (8:16.63) and distance medley (3:46.29) relay squads.

Girls’ title winners for Indianola included Anna Hoyman (discus, 129-4), Jaydn Forbes (800, 2:27.07), the 4×800 runners (10:17.94) and distance medley squad (4:24.11).
