indianola-3

Both the Indianola girls and boys basketball teams could not muster up enough offense to stick with a pair of talented Mustangs teams Friday night, as the girls fell to Dallas Center-Grimes 48-31 and the boys 69-59 as heard live on KNIAKRLS.com.

The Indians girls hit the games first shot on a Lauren Blake three-pointer, but would then be shut out for the rest of the first trailing 12-3, then held the Mustangs to just 10 second quarter points but only mustered 7 themselves to trail 22-10 at the break. The third quarter did not go much differently, as the Indians tried to battle back but were ice-cold from the floor scoring only 5 points.

Indians head coach Jeff Janssen tells KNIA Sports the Mustangs got too many extra possessions on missed shots for the Indians to win.

“All the o-boards in the first half, that can’t be ok for sure. I thought maybe it got a little bit better as the game went on, but it was too late. We’ve been harping on how good our defensive rebounding has been, and DCG put us in our place tonight and we know we have to go back and continue to work on that”

Emily Naughton led the squad with 18 points.

The Indians boys were plagued by many of the same problems, not making enough shots from deep to keep up with the high-flying Mustangs. The Indians fell behind 19-11 to end the first, then clamped down defensively to only trail 28-23 at the halftime break.

The Indians then got the game within two points in the third at 34-32, but would not get much closer as the Mustangs went on a 16-7 run to end the quarter to lead 50-39, and traded buckets throughout the fourth to end the contest. Charlie Wilmott led the Indians with 16 points.

The girls fall to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in conference play, while the boys are now 2-3 and 1-2. Both teams next play Warren County rival Carlisle on Monday.
